5 Ways to Turn Your Teen’s Sports Videos Into Athletic Scholarship Cash

According to experts within the industry, most college coaches use video to evaluate high school talent; yet only 10% of high school athletes have video available. Here are six easy steps to turn your teen’s sports memories into college and university sports scholarship money.

1. Record all games

Record every play of every game that your child is on the field or court. You never know what will be his or her best play or game, so capture all of them.

2. Keep it steady and simple

Mount the camera on a tripod with a birds-eye view of the game (high in the stands) and zoom in. Make sure to keep your teen in the middle of the frame at all times.  Remember, recruiters want to see your child, not the entire team.

3. Edit your greatest hits

Edit your best ten plays from your primary position followed by five from your secondary position. If you are usually a first basemen but sometimes play shortstop, showcase your best ten plays at first base and then five plays from shortstop.  Also, make sure you highlight who you are on the field by freezing each play and using an arrow to indicate which player you are.

4. Edit your best game

Use the same editing procedure, edit an entire game down to every play that you are on the court or field.  By “every play” we mean “every play.”  It is important to show the coaches your game presence even when you miss a lay up or fumble the ball.

5. Putting it all together

The first minute of your tape should list statistics on static pages that progress automatically:

a) Your name and contact information

b) Personal athletic statistics (height, weight, age, etc.)

c) Sports statistics (positions, speed, bench press, etc.)

d) Your education statistics (SAT, GPA, honors, etc.)

e) Personal highlights (community service, awards, etc.)

6.  Put the video online

Use youtube.com or ihigh.com to post the video online and be sure to send the link to coaches.
