On a mission: why you must have a wedding video

I'm on a mission here: did you know that 40% of couples don't have a video of their wedding? That is really sad because while gorgeous photos are nice, your wedding goes by in such a blur, it's hard to remember the details of the big day.

If you are on a budget for your wedding (who isn't in this economy?), let me plead with you not to sacrifice the video. I've spoken with many couples that cut out the video at their wedding and they ALL regret it. Most of them now have kids and are very sorry that they can't show them that special day.

You don't need to spend $2000 - $3000 on a wedding video

I'm really lucky that my husband was very adamant about having friends of ours act as videographers at our wedding. We actually had 2 videographers at our wedding but no one noticed because they were identical twins :-). My husband then spent the 4 months between the return from our honeymoon and Christmas editing the video to perfection.

Even if you don't have identical twins with camcorders you can still capture your wedding on video without spending the $2000 to $3000 that videographers usually cost. And you don't have to spend the first months of your newly-wed bliss editing Uncle Ted's version of your wedding.

Here's the recipe to a cost-conscious wedding video:

find someone in your circle of family and friends that has a decent camcorder (it doesn't have to be HD)
better yet, find 2 people - recruit a film student from a local school via Craigslist if you can't find anyone
ask them to act as videographers at your wedding
make sure they have a tripod or monopod
make a list of shots that are important to you (bride's preparations, bride coming down the aisle, wedding vows, throwing of bouquet etc.)
have them check the sound on the camcorder before the wedding
make sure they are very close when you say your vows
edit the result yourself with iMovie or another easy video editing software (or let us do it)
