Raising Money: Your School Year on Video

Yes it’s 2009 and your children are just starting high school, but soon it will be 2012 with their friends in college and scattered all over the planet. Now is the time to think of their high school video yearbook and raising money for their class. When I grew up we were lucky to have a photo yearbook. My biggest beef is not taking advantage of the plethora of high school video available and the money you can raise for your school.

High School Video Library
Most schools have corralled the year’s best school video on sites like www.ihigh.com. School organizations like sports teams, school bands, and drama clubs have tons of great video.  Now it’s time to turn these memories into cash for their class or extracurricular activity.  The key is to edit them into a DVD fundraiser and then put some highlights on www.youtube.com. Trust me, in ten years both your child will love to look back at their high school memories.

Top Video Advice
The best school video starts with the best organization:
- Have your child collect as many video clips as possible
- Pick the best video clips
- Include everything your child likes
- Include what other students will like
- Organize clips on a spreadsheet
- Rate them best to worst
- Create categories like Funny or Sports
- Review and eliminate redundancies

Edit Your Video
Choose a video service with the computer power, software and knowledge to edit your yearend video movie. This is NOT the time to learn editing software. www.videomaker.com/article/3158/ has great advice on why to edit and www.pixability.com has a great editing service to help with your task and allow you to raise money for your school or club.
