Witch YouTube Trends are Attracting Attention this Halloween

Halloween is two days away, and YouTube is in costume. Here is what Pixability’s proprietary data says about what viewers are consuming.
Gamers are dressing the whole party
Gaming is the biggest Halloween theme on YouTube at 16.2% of uploads, up from 13.8% last year. It is also writing the costume list: Verity from Minecraft made Google's top 25, and Verity costume searches on YouTube went from zero to a real presence in a year.
Vibes over screams
Gothic and dark academia content more than tripled its share of Halloween views. Cozy, rain, fireplace, and village titles all grew, while scary stories and paranormal lost share. Viewers want a mood, not a jump scare.
Nostalgia never dies

Vintage, retro and nostalgic content doubled its share of Halloween views. "VHS Halloween" and "Snoopy Halloween" are rising searches, and nostalgic Halloween movie searches have grown every year since 2019.
Shorts rule the night
Shorts were at least 53% of Halloween uploads and at least 76% of views. Ranking videos more than tripled their share of views, and "Halloween transition" became a rising search.

Viewers scout the season on YouTube
Four of five Breakout searches are about retail and event plans: Spirit Halloween 2026, Spirit Halloween animatronics, Home Depot Halloween 2026, and Halloween Horror Nights 2026.
Brands are in the top tier
Chase Freedom's Halloween Scream Trailer pulled 42.9M views and ranked third among this month's most viewed Halloween videos, and NERDS Candy added 6.1M. Together, brand videos earned 7.9% of views across the top 50.

Final-week playbook
- Feed the spike. Last year, "halloween songs" searches jumped from an index of 42 to 100 in the final week, and makeup more than doubled. Do not go dark now.
- Go vertical, or get haunted. Oct 31 alone drove 15% of last year's Halloween uploads, so the feed will be loud.
- Summon your 2027 plan sooner. Halloween uploads build all month, and the final week is 43% of the total.
