Theresa: What is CurlyCon and how did it start?

Ava: The Ultimate Celebration of Curly Hair…Bringing Curly Culture to life, we’re creating the ultimate experience to celebrate curly hair—CurlyCon! For one extraordinary day, Curly Culture will host a convention where the vibrant world of curly hair takes center stage. An exhilarating, immersive experience that brings together curly girls from all walks of life—guests will indulge in a day filled with networking, learning, engagement, and uncovering the secrets to embracing and managing those gorgeous curls.

Theresa: How has the event evolved since it first began, and what can attendees look forward to this year?

Ava: We started with a Curly Culture brunch then a Curly Culture dinner. Now we have a full 1 day CurlyCon that will soon become a 2 day conference. This year we are excited to have a CurlyCon Marketplace with several major brands that will have booth activations with sampling and demonstrations. We will also have added a CurlyMarket for smaller vendors to sells their products.

Theresa: Why do you think events like CurlyCon LA are important for representation and community building?

Ava: Curly Culture’s content is dedicated to sparking and hosting conversations that empower women. Featuring a unique rotation of influencers, and celebrities, Curly Culture’s digital and social content continues to connect women all over the world through a special, universal topic—hair.

Theresa: What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own community-focused event?

Ava: It’s the 3C’s content, community and commerce. Start building your community on-line by creating content that resonates with an audience on specific topics that you are passionate about. Once the community builds on-line then you offer small events to bring them together. It’s best when it’s organic and the audience authentically wants to come together.

Theresa: Where can we go to find out more about the event?

Ava: Curly Culture is a global community and digital media company created to inspire, educate, and entertain multicultural women all over the world. Founded by entrepreneur, Ava Pearl, Curly Culture’s mission is to provide a trustworthy destination for information and knowledge on how to manage curly hair. Originating from wanting to help multicultural women find answers to all their curly haired questions—Ava has taken the platform to new heights with an engaged and loyal following that believes in uplifting women and celebrating their natural beauty…curls and all.
